  • Beginner Plus knitting

    For those who know how to cast on and off, knit and purl. This is the perfect opportunity to consolidate your skills and learn new ones. During the 5 week course, you will make a baby cardigan – learning how to read a pattern, rib, stocking stitch, shape, pick up stitches, make buttonholes, block and sew up. Of course all these skills can then be scaled up to make an adult garment.

    Homework will be required.

    You will need to bring 250g of aran weight yarn,  4mm and 5mm 80cm circular needles. All available to purchase at Nest.

  • Adult freestyle knitting

    • 5 weeks

    In this class you will bring your own wool and pattern and our fabulous teacher will guide you through any questions you may have. Aimed at those who have completed an intermediate course and particularly useful if you want to improve their techniques with on hand help.

  • Adult beginners knitting

    • 5 sessions

    We will cover all the knitting basics and a bit extra! No previous knitting knowledge is required but by the end of the course you will be a confident newbie knitter.
    The course will include:

    • the very beginning – how to hold your needles and make a slip knot
    • casting on and off
    • knit and purl
    • garter stitch, stocking stitch, rib, moss st, stripes etc.
    • increasing and decreasing yarn, guage and tension reading a pattern designing your own simple pattern

    * price includes a set of needles and ball of yarn plus tea/coffee and biscuits

  • Adult intermediate knitting

    • 5 sessions
    • Monday 26th February
    • 6.30 - 8.00pm
    • £90.00

    This course is designed to enable you to tackle a vast range of knitting projects. Each week we will introduce you to new techniques based around a particular project. In the class you will learn the techniques needed and you can then choose whether to create the full piece at home. Over the 5 weeks we will cover:

    Hat Project
    Knitting in the round
    Knitting to fit – measuring and swatching
    Decreasing in pattern

    Slip Stitch Facecloth
    Using cotton yarn
    Introduction to simple colourwork

    Lace Scarf
    Using a fine yarn with larger needles
    Principles of lace knitting
    Blocking lace

    Mitts
    Magic Loop (circular needles not DPNs required)
    Inserting a gusset (use of stitch markers, lifted increases)

    Cable Cowl
    Use of a cable needle
    Effect of cables on fabric

    To get the most from this course participants need to be able to cast on, cast off, knit and purl, increase and decrease confidently.

    * yarn will be provided for use in class but not to create each full project. Needles will not be provided. This is what is needed:

    Needles (required):
    40cm, 60cm & 80cm circular interchangeable cables (such as Knit Pro)
    6.5mm & 5mm interchangeable needle points (such as Knit Pro)
    4mm interchangeable needle points OR 4mm straight needles
    3.25mm double pointed needles (DPNs)

    Yarn (optional):
    2 x 50g chunky yarn
    2 x 50g aran weight cotton yarn
    1 x 100g 4ply weight yarn
    1 x 50g smooth DK yarn
    2 x 50g smooth aran yarn
